Our Mission
Crossing the Digital Divide is a non-profit organization with a very specific goal; to close the gap between the haves and the have-nots by bringing technology to the most vulnerable and "in need" of our society, people in recovery.
CDD SEES BIG CHANGES in 2011 - More To Come In The New Year
Each of the past seven years in which Crossing the Digital Divide has been in existence has been noteworthy. The first few years were full of the excitement and realization that we had created something special. Brining computer training to adults in recovery was a perfect plan. We were reaching a vital population, high-risk adults with little support, at a crucial time in their lives. Our adult students were deemed “unable” to learn and “unwilling” to do the work needed to reestablish them in society.
CDD proved this assumption completely wrong. Our students were not only willing but were overjoyed to participate. Each session, the entire class stands in line to shake the hands of our volunteer Instructors, showing their gratitude. One student tattooed the name of his Instructor on his arm so that he could remember the turning moment in his life. All of us who experienced those first few years felt a true sense of being in the right place at the right time. We began doing something that could truly change lives.
Our Volunteer Instructors were also defying odds. Most schools and organizations that offer training do not engage volunteers to run the programs or teach classes. The perception is that volunteers are not reliable, not as dedicated, and not as personally invested as someone who is paid to fill the job.
