Student Story - Hector Soto

My name is Hector Soto. When I started this CDD computer class. I was depressed but after the fourth week of taking this class my mind changed. I was learning new things about computers, and liked what I was learning, then I was discovering my long future goal, that is to some day become a computer operator and a programmer.

With this in mind allow me to explain a little bit about myself about my background. You see from a very young age I wanted to learn “how light bulbs light up, and why radios play the sound of music, or why television show movies, so I took a student loan, registered in college, in an Electronic Engineering course, and learned the atomic structure of electricity, function is made from electrons, protons, and neutrons. for example, the electron comes out of the power source AC outlet, on the wall through a n electric cord enters the “motherboard bridge circuit” and AC to DC (Direct current flow). Then the electron runs through a copper wire crossing capacitors, resistors and the light bulb lights up when the electron reaches the proton back to the power source. This is a circular motion, that’s why the light bulb stays on. Then when the electron and the proton meet they dissipate-they disappear. So I learned ohms law.

Then, later in life I wanted to work in an office environment so I took out another student loan, registered at United College of Business and learned how to use the electronic typewriter and became very proficient typing 40 to 60 WPM. Also I was trained to in do data entry in on a PC (personal computer) typing names, numbers, and words. A week later after my graduation I was sent to prison-that’s sad and two years after I got a job in the city in the field of shipping and receiving using the UPS computer data entry, typing shipping labels, invoices, and other office work procedures.

Therefor considering this little information about my background putting them together I come to the conclusion that my future goal is to become a computer programmer. I know that computer knowledge is not easy to learn, is confusing, and I need skilled instructors to give us the education. That’s why I registered in this CDD computer class, because I had hope that the education they give me here my typing skills my knowledge end computer learning desire expand.

For this reason I want to use this moment to thank the CDD instructors “Dawn, Darin, Austin, Srini) for using their valuable time to teach me new things I personally didn’t. I remember during the Cdd class session the instructors had a computer case on the center of the floor. But the cover of the case was opened, it was uncovered and I could see cables wires, green circuit board, and it was just there for us to look at it as if we were about to do surgery to that computer. And that’s exactly what we did mentally speaking they spoke and I saw the mother board-all circuits are attaché to the mother board. The CPU is the computer brain, the RAM store files, the Hard drive case storage devices, the CD/DVD drive reads software, the Modem in the telephonic internet connector using a phone line, and there is more ireless to talk about.

But let me tell you I also learned how to use the mouse with the [pointer moving on the desk top. Left double click means Icon opens the program, right click a menu pups up and can also correct misspelled words. Furthermore I learn how to use the tool bar which is located on top of the desk top, and the task bar located at the bottom of the screen-it works with windows. This computer knowledge is going to help me tremendously, but I need more education; therefore, my future plan is to get a jog laid my foundation economically stable then I will apply for another student loa to become a computer programmer, because it is my future heart desire to work in the computer world. Today most people use the internet to find jobs, shop on line, to register in college, to make your own website for advertisement and promotion, to do Academy school work. I can go on, and on about computer knowledge but my time in this paper presentation is short.

Therefore in closing I want to thank Ralph from Walden House for enrolling me in this CDD computer class, and thanks again to the CDD instructor because you open my understanding to learn computer knowledge again: Thank you all.
