The teaching experience at House of Uhuru this Fall session was a good experience for everyone. I think the curriculum is good and gave students a good understanding of basic computer knowledge; after this course I think the students who never used computer before and were afraid of computers, am sure wont be afraid of computers any more. This course has surely given them a lot of confidence within themselves.
One of the biggest transformation I saw was in Peter Mabrie, he was all energized on the day of the graduation. His words were “Before joining this course I used to feel that I am behind others as I am older than them and behind a lot of things happening now a days; but after taking this class I feel young and full of energy once again. I will make my own recording company and will get all the additional knowledge I need to accomplish it by going online and looking for it in google”. After hearing him say these words I felt good for him and felt a feeling of satisfaction within me, as I felt like I have played a small part in someones life.
Another student Willie Jeffries wanted to pursue a career in Cartoon Animation and I have to say that he is a very good artist. The way he think about a Animation character and story behind that character is amazing. But to have a career in Animation, he sure do need to know how to use computer and also how can he use Internet to improvise his knowledge in the field of Animation. By the end of the course he sure was confident on how can he achieve his goal in life.
And I have to say that I was amazed by the confidence they have in themselves and this is something I will be taking away from this class- “one should always have faith and confidence within oneself”, that‘s what I learned from these students.
Everyones story is success within itself and everyone sure needed basic computer knowledge, as in todays world, computer is NOT good to know but is a NECESSITY. I am also thankful to the supporting staff at House of Uhuru, who were there to help us whenever we needed something.
